Valpak's 'Green Week'

share recycle-more.co.uk

Valpak's (the UK's leading provider of compliance and recycling solutions) dedication to reducing its environmental footprint led to the company hosting a 'Green Week' which commenced 19th January 2009, consisting of a number of events which aimed to educate staff, raise awareness, and reduce Valpak's overall environmental impact.

What events took place?

The 'Green Week' programme contained a series of fundraising and educational events ranging from a 'Wear Jeans and Green' day to a bake sale, in addition to this guest speakers from green groups such as Traidcraft attended and gave talks on relevant topics. The 'Green Week' raffle was a great success and Valpak would like to thank the following businesses that kindly donated generous gifts:

Park Plaza Hotels, Silverfleet, Millennium Hotels, A & C Black Publishers, Menzies Hotels, Premier Telecom, and Q Hotels.

But Valpak didn't stop there, individual green behaviour was encouraged amongst their staff through the launch of the 'Green Points Scheme'. This staff incentive scheme rewards employees for their 'green actions', such as car sharing to work and printing double sided.

One of the focuses of the scheme is also to reduce business and commuter mileage, which included the introduction of a specific car park for car sharers.

Steve Gough, Valpak CEO, commented: "We are proud to have implemented the 'Green Week' initiative and hope that it will encourage other local businesses to follow suit. Valpak is an organisation that helps businesses to comply with environmental legislation; it is important that we lead by example."

The event was a great success and raised over £800 with all funds being donated to the Romano British Campsite Project in conjunction with Warwickshire Wildlife Trust.
