what is valpak?

ValpakValpak is the UK's largest Producer Responsibility scheme, meeting the obligations of 3,000 UK businesses under the Packaging Waste Regulations. The regulations place a legal requirement on certain UK businesses to recover and recycle packaging. Valpak takes on the legal obligation of its 3,000 members (including many of the country's blue chip companies) and ensures recycling happens on their behalf.

We also ensure member funds are invested in to UK recovery and recycling infrastructure, which in turn will mean that the UK is in a better position to achieve recycling targets set by Europe. This system of recycling investment is one of the most cost-effective in Europe. As well as offering competitive compliance with these regulations, Valpak also advises members on other issues of Producer Responsibility.

what is recycle-more?

recycle-more www.recycle-more.co.uk was founded in 2000, and offers information on recycling to schools, households and businesses as well as links to other recycling resources. The website is one of the most popular recycling sites in the UK and received over 2.5 million hits in 2006!

The site is run by Valpak, and was set up to fulfil our members' legal requirement to promote recycling to consumers.

The site offers the UK's most comprehensive recycling bank locator. Find out where to recycle near you by typing your postcode into the unique bank locator, which is updated by over 450 local authorities. The site also offers activities and recycling information for schools.

what is the youth eco-parliament?

Youth Eco-Parliament The Youth Eco-Parliament forms part of the PRO Europe Congress. The Congress values the importance of Environmental Education for young people, and theld the third Youth Eco-Parliament in Prague in May 2008. This was an assembly consisting of around 70 young people aged between 14 and 16.

The 2008 Youth Eco-Parliament composed a document centred around the environmental projects that the young people have worked on. The report was presented at an official ceremony to representatives of UNESCO , who are co-ordinating the United Nations Decade of Education for Sustainable Development.

The European Parliament The European Parliament consists of 731 representatives from the 25 member states of the EU. The UK has 78 MEPs (Members of European Parliament). The European Parliament meets in Brussels, Belgium to undertake activities such as amending and voting on draft legislation and policy, deciding on the EU budget and approving international agreements.
